Andrea Del Sarto "The Faultless Painter"

Andrea Del Sarto (1486 - 1530) was one of the most influential painters on the scene after Leonardo, Michelangelo and Raffaello left Florence at the beginning of the 1500's. Andrea Del Sarto taught Pontormo and Rosso Fiorentino, two important painters who helped form the first generation of the "Mannerist Style" in Florence.

Vasari described Andrea Del Sarto as an "excellent talented painter, of refined draftsmanship and perfection".
Andrea Del Sarto combined several elements in his style: the classical, in the posture and sentimental depiction of his figures, along with the modern influences of Michelangelo and his contemporaries, as well as the strong Florentine tradition of figurative drawing.
We propose the following itinerary which shows some of the finest examples of works by Andrea Del Sarto: the Chiostro dello Scalzo with the beautiful monochrome frescoes of the life of St.John the Baptist, then the Chiostrino dei Voti in the SS.Annunziata church depicting the life of Saint Filippo Benizzi, along with the Birth of the Virgin, homage to his beloved wife, Lucrezia del Fede.Lastly we'll pass by the painter's house in near by Via Capponi.
